After leaving the Hartt School, Carl began working at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, mentored by leading engineers such as Russ Elevado, Phil Joly, Zach Brown, Gosha Usov, Riccardo Damian, Stewart Lerman, Jeremy Hatcher, and many others. He began working with artists such as Maggie Rogers, Patti Smith, Steve Earle, YEBBA, the Roots, Loudon Wainwright with Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, J Cole, and Mark Ronson. He was the tracking engineer on Jon Batiste’s Live at Electric Lady, Steve Earle’s The Moment in 1965 When Rock and Roll Became Art, multiple tracks on James Blake’s Before EP and Friends that Break Your Heart LP, Louis Vuitton read by Jennifer Connelly, and multiple tracks of Run the Jewels’ RTJ4. In addition, Carl worked with the Daniel Johnston foundation and Lee Foster of Electric Lady Studios on The Unfinished Fest at SXSW 2022 in Austin, TX, featuring Japanese Breakfast, Weyes Blood, and others.

In addition, Carl has worked on the Spotify Singles Series along side William Garrett and Jack Mason, both at Electric Lady and Powerstation NYC, including Arooj Aftab, FLETCHER, Sabrina Carpenter, Sierra Ferrell, and many others.

Carl opened Golden Girl Sound in Brooklyn, NY as he expanded his gear collection and clientele. Located in an old rope factory right off the East River, Golden Girl has hosted sessions, rehearsals, mixing and mastering sessions with artists including Ritt Momney, Shane T, Hannah Jagadu, Silver Cup, Cry Baby, Isabel Stein, Vegyn, Evil Giane, Brooks Hudgins, Pom Pom Squad and NPR’s Tiny Desk, Blush FM, and many others. Carl envisions Golden Girl to be a financially accessible sonic haven for artists and creators, housing a collection of vintage and modern instruments and recording equipment.
